THE DIALECTIC BETWEEN ART AND FASHION
Fifteen years of experience in the fashion industry (notably at Ermenegildo Zegna) have shaped Marie Es-Borrat’s artistic world. After a decade dedicated to men’s
ready-to-wear, the female figure has become her favourite playground. Both parallel and complementary, fashion and art drive her to look beyond the surface image that all too often freezes the
fashion system in place. Thus, the artist fuses multiple levels of interpretation in her photographs, just as she layers and refines layers of paint and textiles on her canvases. The photo
montages, in turn, illustrate this dialectic between art and fashion, paying homage to 20th-century creators such as Séraphine de Senlis and Modigliani.
